TPS Modification for the Mikuni HSR 42

I don't get to the forum as much as I should these days. But lately I'm getting e-mails from riders who had to go searching through the forum archives, so they could find my address to ask if I'm still doing the TPS/HSR installation. So I figured I should put in a new post about it. Here's the "boiler plate" response I send out when I get a request from a rider about having the job done.

I do still do the TPS installation on the Mikuni HSR series carbs. I do NOT sell a kit for other people to do their own installation. The Mikuni HSR carburetor has to be one with the throttle cable bracket installed on the right side of the intake. For clarification, that means that as you are looking into the carb intake (where the air filter gets attached) the throttle cable bracket has to be to the right of that opening. There are rare examples of the HSR carbs that have the throttle cable bracket on the left side of the intake and my installation does not work on that design.

To prep your HSR carb for shipping to me, just drain the carburetor of all gas and put it in a zip-lock bag to contain any remaining fumes. In fact I suggest double-bagging it. If the shipper smells gasoline, they may red-flag it. I need the OEM Yamaha Throttle Position Sensor from the stock carburetor, which you can leave attached to the diamond shaped steel mounting base or not. I don't need the small TPS mount, but I DO need the complete HSR carb with the throttle cable support bracket attached.

The TPS will be installed on a custom made aluminum plate which allows the TPS to work directly off the throttle shaft of the carb. All the threaded hardware that I use is stainless steel. A $100 money order will get the job done and back to you, postage paid (in the continental US). If you want it insured on the return trip, add $8.00. Sorry, but I don't do PayPal. Pack it all with lots of padding and send it to the address below. I'll do the install, adjust it and get it on it's return trip within 2 days of when it arrives. Usually it's on it's way home the day after I get it. When you get it back, all you need do is to install it on your Road Star and ride away. It will come with information about related tuning and, if you ever need to fiddle with the TPS, a description of how to adjust it.
